Confrontation is Never the Answer

I wholeheartedly believe in the phrase, “Communication is key.” I am a huge fan of open, honest communication. With this comes difficult conversations.

What makes conversations difficult?
– an anticipation of REactions
– subject matter
– delivery
– lack of empathy
* feelings

Anger, hurt, deception, resentment, etc. are feelings that cause a difficult conversation to become a confrontation.

Confrontations are one-sided. Confrontations are closed-minded. Confrontations can lead to violence. Confrontations are not healthy conversations or communication.

Communication is the transformation of thoughts and words into meaningful action. MEANINGFUL action! This involves an agreement between parties. Confrontation doesn’t end in agreement because it wasn’t designed to have one.

Confrontation & communication are not the same! These words, including conversation, are often interchanged while not being interchangeable. Always shoot for conversation & communication, not confrontation.

Take some time to soothe your mind, calm your thoughts, bring down the blood pressure before addressing a volatile issue or person. When you are in control of your REactions, you are better equipped to handle others’ actions. If all else fails, BREATHE it through! đź’Ż
